How to Celebrate Yourself on National Self Love Day
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it is easy to get caught up with woo-ing our partners, winning over a crush or finding a date for the special night but we rarely talk about the importance of developing a lasting relationship with ourselves. That’s where International Self Love Day comes in -- a day for everyone, not just those that are coupled up. Though we at Me First believe in showing yourself love every day we have come up with some me-time activities perfect for February 13th or any day you want to spread the (self)love.
- Start The Day Right - Whether your preferred morning potion is coffee or celery juice treat yourself to a breakfast that makes you feel good. Maybe you will allow yourself to indulge in a tasty treat or you will take this opportunity to prepare some serious fuel food. Either way, taking time to practice mindful eating is a way of showing yourself you care.
- Get a Little QT - Spend some quality time with yourself. Maybe you don’t have time to clear your schedule for the day but try getting up 15 minutes earlier or checking in with yourself before bed. Do a full body scan of how you are feeling, start with the top of your head and work your way down. What is your body telling you?
Affirmations - Practice some positive, self-love inducing affirmations. Whether you say them out loud or write them down in a journal it is important that you take the time to speak to yourself with kindness and love. Make a commitment to clear the negativity from your head and replace it with positive thoughts so you can start to build confidence in yourself. Need a little inspo?
- Let It Go - What is one thought or feeling that is holding you back? Take time to work through the feelings and allow yourself to let them go. We are wired to think mistakes deserve punishment. Forgiveness allows you to move forward with kindness and self-love.
Just as relationships with other people will have ups and downs so will our relationships with ourselves. It is important to have patience and treat yourself with kindness and love. Remember, if you wouldn’t say it to a friend don’t say it to yourself.
